All very good considerations.
If you wire the cable under the rug, it may ground out and make tuning the system harder. However, if you are able to tune it while the cable is wired in this fashion you are good to go.
As for the field, it will exist between the two boxes in the shape of a football with the widest point being half the distance the boxes are apart.
So if you can visualize a football between the two points where you plan to put the boxes, you should be able to see that the primary field shouldn’t really extend to your neighbors.
There will be the possibility that the two boxes become resonant with other objects and create additional fields outside of the primary field. In this case, they may get exposure to the scalar field, but it is technically no different than all the WIFI exposure we subject each other to without question — although the scalar energy is not disrupting or harmful. So you have precedence there since no one is complaining about WIFI overlap.
